“I almost cancelled twice before the first session. He didn't make it strange. We talked for fifty minutes and I never felt rushed.”

Most men don't come to therapy because they're weak. They come because they're exhausted from pretending to be invincible.
There's a version of strength that includes asking for help. Let's find it.
What sessions are like
What sessions are like.
The first fifty minutes
Mostly facts: what is going on, what you want to change and what you want left alone. You do not need the right words.

Questions, not nodding
Dr. Atkins asks direct questions and says why he is asking. If you start talking in circles, he will say so, kindly.

Something to try, if you want
Some weeks there is one small thing to notice or try before next time. It is always explained and always optional.

Checking the pace
Every few sessions we ask whether this is what you came for, and change course if it is not.

The plain facts.
